FAQ – Internet 25/50

Can I use my own router instead of the one supplied by HighSpeed Systems?

All of our installations require that our wireless router be installed in the residence. If you have your own router, you may wish to connect it to one of the LAN ports on our router. If our router is disconnected for any reason, your Internet service will stop working.

Can I connect more than one device to the HighSpeed Systems wireless router?
Yes, you may connect an unlimited number of devices. You may connect to the empty LAN ports on the router as well as connecting devices wirelessly.

Will my devices be able to communicate with each other?
Yes, all devices connected to the wireless router in your residence will be able to communicate with one another. For example, this allows you to print to a network printer, scan from a network scanner, communicate with media devices such as AppleTV and Chromecast, and to share files between devices.

If I need to cancel my service, how much notice is required?
You may cancel at any time without any advanced notice. You will only be required to pay for the service you use up to the date of cancellation.

What happens when I reach the monthly traffic limit?
The monthly traffic limit is designed to accommodate the traffic needs of the vast majority of users. In cases where a user exceeds our monthly traffic limit we will charge the user at a rate of $5 for the first 50 GB bucket, and $10 for every subsequent 50 GB bucket to a monthly maximum of $75. If you go over your monthly limit we will contact you to assist you with taking action to reduce your usage in order to stay under the monthly traffic limit.

If I have a smart TV, is it better to connect using WiFi or a wired connection?
We recommend that whenever possible you use a wired connection with a smart TV. Because WiFi is used by many devices in a residential building, it is subject to interference. The interference may cause fluctuations in the speed of the connection between the smart TV and the wireless router. If you have a wired connection near your smart TV, you should connect your TV using an Ethernet patch cable. You will then have the best possible viewing experience, without interruptions or degraded image resolution.

If I cancel my Internet service with my current provider, will I be subject to termination penalties?
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) recently changed their regulations to permit subscribers to cancel their Internet service without being subject to penalties or cancellation fees. We recommend that you confirm the termination policy with your current provider prior to making a final decision in order to ensure that there are no surprises.

How do I return equipment to HighSpeed Systems?
If you cancel your service within the first 30 days, or if you cancel your service while you are renting your wireless router from HighSpeed Systems, please contact us and we will arrange to have your equipment returned to us.
